A Filadélfia é a menina dos olhos dos Estados Unidos. De grande importância no século 18, graças a essa cidade que a nação conseguiu a independência da Grã-Bretanha e continua sendo até hoje um ponto importante na economia dos EUA. Além dessa importância histórica, a arquitetura da cidade permitiu que Filadélfia fosse local de filmagem de grandes obras do cinema como “Rocky”, onde a cena da escadaria em frente ao Museu de Arte ficou tão famosa que se tornou um dos locais mais visitados de todos os tempos.
Mas além de toda essa importância cinematográfica, a cidade é cheia de referências históricas como Independence Hall, onde foi assinada a declaração de independência americana, e agora é um ponto turístico importante para o pais pois conta toda uma história e ainda mantém objetos que pertenceram diretamente àqueles combates, como o Liberty Bell, sino representante da época da independência.
No início dos anos 70 o centro do universo da música soul foi Filadélfia. Combinando regime progressivo com composições estelares e uma oferta aparentemente infinita de qualidade grupos vocais, a Cidade do Amor Fraterno capturou o que Motown realizada em Detroit na década de 60 e levou-a para o próximo nível. E entre os grandes grupos vocais Philly, três dos maiores eram; Stylistics , Blue Magic e os Delfonics.

Old school Funk e Soul music, ou simplesmente Old school (expressão inglesa que pode ser traduzida como “velha guarda”) é o termo utilizado para descrever os princípios do funk e soul music aos estilos musicais da época, representada pelos precursores do funk e soul music mundial.
Os historiadores classificam como old school a etapa que incluía o final da década de 70 e a maior parte da década de 80 (representada por James Brown, Kool & the Band, E.W.F, The Gab Band, Rick James, One Way, BarKais, Commodores, Midnight Star, The Whispers, Melba Moore, Shalamar, Al Green, entre muitos outros).
